Which EV Charger Benefits You?

September 20, 2018

Electric cars are becoming a great alternative to conventional vehicles. Using an EV charger is a great way to keep your electric car charged and running. Charging an electric car provides a unique experience compared to pumping gas. An EV charger takes less time, avoids coming in contact with gasoline, and offers you convenience like none other.

At A.S. Electrical, we are dedicated to a greener lifestyle. If you are in need of an EV charger for your electric car, we have you covered!

EV chargers are becoming increasingly popular due to the rise in electric cars on the road. Charging your electric car is easy, but installing an EV charger should be left to the professionals. At A.S. Electrical, we are proud installers of EV chargers in your home, office, or anywhere else you need. However, it is important to know and understand the differences between charging stations.

Here are three different charging stations for your electric vehicle:

  1. Level 1: This process involves charging your vehicle with a standard 120V outlet. Usually, this makes it possible for you to drive about 8km per hour of charging. If you charge your electric car for 10 hours overnight, you will have approximately 80km of driving distance for the next day. This amount of charge can satisfy your driving needs if you work close to home. However, this type of charging may be too slow if you take longer trips.
  2. Level 2: This type of charger uses a 240V outlet, which is similar to the outlets some big household appliances like a washer, dryer, and oven use. A level 2 charger provides 30km per hour of charging. Similar to level 1, a level 2 charger uses your household electricity to power your vehicle. Level 2 chargers are the most common charging level for electric car owners.
  3. Level 3 or DC Fast Charging: This charging level is considered the fastest way to charge your electric car. Level 3, also known as DC Fast Charging, is capable of charging your electric vehicle’s battery from empty to 80% in about a half hour. These stations unfortunately are unavailable to install in your home but they are located along major highways throughout the country.
